[Caleb Swan Esquire Paymaster General Army United States Philadelphia] Fort Adams, May 25^th 1800 Sir, In consequence of an order from General Wilkinson requiring me to endeavour to procure money to finish the payment of the troops up to the 28th February last, a copy of which I enclose you, I have received from M^r Hunt the sum of eighteen thousand five hundred and twenty five dollars for which I have given him such a receipt as This sum will be sufficient to enable you to pay the amount to him and charge the same to me — The arrangement has been for [undecipherable] the accommodation and [undecipherable] a return of the confusion which has prevailed in this quarter, as regards the pay of the troops, and will I hope meet your approbation — Should bills arrive they will of course remain unemployed until I am informed of the result — I have the honor to be Sir Your obd^t hble Serv^t [undecipherable] Lieu^t D^y Paymaster [undecipherable] Regiment Caleb Swan Esq^re Paymaster General Army U States [4043] --- The Paymaster General is authorised to take up the receipts given to Lieut.
