The inclosed News [undecipherable: paper], will shew you the card which has been [strikethrough: head thrown] [strikethrough: lately] paid by the President. What do you think of the game? Is it not nearly up? The [undecipherable: funds] will certainly loose to him in this State, the very few tricks, it was possible he might have gained by a different plan — But when can such tricks be suitable or [undecipherable: noble in a republic] — my friend are we? In the United States? It is no consolation I assure you, to find by this act, that the President cares as little for a judge, as for his Secretaries, when the disgrace of either will suit a personal purpose. Connect with late doings and sayings, the seeming intimacy [strikethrough: by] of paragraphs which subsists between the present administration (Wolcott and myself being considered nullities) and [undecipherable: the wrong], and tell me, whether we ought not to think seriously of our gardens and real employments.
