Lambton May 9.^th 1800 Sir Since I wrote you on the 19.^th Ultimo I have spent considerable time in examining the papers and acc.^t of supplies furnished to the New Jersey militia in 1794; and find that I had orders from you bearing date the 11.^th Feby 1794 to Issue out the stores on the orders of the commanding Officers of Corps countersigned by Col.^t Mentges, this order was strictly attended to during his residence there and I believe with one or two exceptions during his absence where the supplies wanted were of a nature that thay were absolutely necessary for the service. These orders and receipts were forwarded to your Office on the 24 June 1795 accompanied by my return of all the publick property which [strikethrough: has] was then on hand and had been rec.^d from the Jersey Militia on their return from the Western insurrection, since which there has not been any collection made — or do I think that any thing can be worth notice for the reasons that I mentioned in my last, & in fact I think the expense [strikethrough: would] in col.^g would be more than the am.^t. I find upon the hurry & confusion (of which you are well acquainted) in doing business with an entire army of Militia my [undecipherable] people during my absence made no entries of the Supplies furnished by which I can with any accuracy furnish you with a return of Stores furnished to each Individual and in many instances the stores were delivered to Sarjeants (and this was taken on the above orders) however if it is your wish that a return should be made of the supplies furnished to each and every from each individual I will have it done and for which purpose I must have the Orders returned that were countersigned by Col Mentges I have enclosed you a return of the Horses that were bought by Gen.^l Miller for the W.ⁿ cavalry at or near Pitts Burgh by order of Gen.^l [undecipherable] and this acc.^t handed me by Gov.^t [undecipherable] + — with much resp.^t I am sir y.^r Mo.
