Sir,
I have received your letter of this date, relative to compensations to Officers or Agents employed in the Quarter Masters Department.
To enable me to form any judgement on the cases referred to, it will be proper that I should have before me the Report of the Quarter Master General on each particular case with his reasons for the compensations or allowances he has authorized or admitted, you will therefore call for such Statements, that they may be submitted accordingly.
As a general rule, whenever Compensation or a Commission has been fixed by the proper authority, no higher or greater is to be admitted in the [undecipherable] of Accounts.
