David Henley Esq^r a.W.D. Knoxville Sir Accountants' Office April 24^t 1800 By this days mail I received a letter from Mr. Chandler inclosing a certificate of the Pay &c drawn of him by Coll^o Butler, and doing away that forwarded some time since; it being erroneous. As I formed the statement of his account upon the information contained in the certificate first forwarded, it is erroneous as I therein credited the Coll^e with his pay &c for the months of July August & Sep^tr 1799 which appears by the last certificate to have been paid by Mr. Chandler. and I omitted charging him with the double rations drawn by him for those months. In consequence I have directed another statement of his account by which there appears a balance of Eight hundred & eighty dollars ⁵/100, due from him to the United States. A copy of this statement I inclose you for your government & I have directed Coll^e Butler either to refund you this amount or stop drawing his Pay & Forage until the account shall be balanced.
