Agreeably to your directions on the 22 instt Mr Aldrige was immediately called upon for his further information on account of the Fortifications at Mud Island —
I have now to inform you that he has accordingly rendered his accounts & vouchers for expenditures up to the present day which have have amounted the sum of Doll 456 [undecipherable] papers to his credit, leaving a balance still due by him & full [undecipherable: M & I] of Two thousand eight hundred twenty four Dollars & [undecipherable] — and that I shall therefore want your further direction before the Warrant issues on the 22 instt for 1000 Dollars in his favor as an advance from this Office —
