[254] Knoxville 23 April 1800 Sir I received your letter of the 28^th March with the printed regulations for the Quarter Masters Department which I Shall attend to also the Muster Rolls of Cornet George Lu Davidson from which pay rolls Shall be madeout agreable to pay and Emoluments of that period they were entitled to and discharged —— Lieut Swain the Regimental Quartermaster has applied to me for Inspection retu[undecipherable: returns] agreable to the New Form not having those on hand I have directed Some to be printed but whether they are to be indulged in those or to Join them I am at a loss to determine —— M^r Hillis will enclose you Abstracts for Purchases made for the Quarter Masters Department From the 13^th February to the 28^th December 1799 amounting to — 2858.72 Also for the Indian Department from the 13^th February to 28^th November 1799 1082.57½ 3941.29½ For the Expenses of my Office from the 8^th January to 27^th December 1799 416.37 And an Abstract for property paid for, stolen from the Indians 29^th October to the 14^th November 1799 as repor- ted upon by the Agent of the Cherokees 551.58 4909.24½ The amount of these Abstracts being four thousand nine hundred and nine Dollars twenty four Cents which I hope you will find proper and accurate —— I have paid Lieut Chandler for the Troops in this District their pay and Subsistence to the 31 March the amount being ten thousand seven hundred and twenty five Dollars three Cents I am Sir your Humb Serv^t William Simmons David Henley Esquire
