Proposing the Establishment of a National Gazette
Document 1800Adams wrote the heads of the departments about the need for a gazette similar to those in France and Britain, provided justification for the use of the gazette. Such a gazette in the U.S. would print proclamations, articles of war, articles of the navy, appointments in the army and navy and other branches of public service. To publish said gazette he requested the appointment of a President's printer and sought the opinions of the cabinet Secretaries on this matter.
