On the 17 instant you were informed by letter that the Accounts rendered by you against the Contributions at Miss Islands for expenditures made up to the 7th instant had been approved & that a balance of Three thousands four hundred seventy one dollars ninety one Cents remained on your hands due the United States —
The Secretary of War has this day given an Order in your favor for two thousand Dollars as an advance on acct of the said Contributions; not being informed of the settlement of your Accts up to the 7th instant, & of the balance then remaining in your hands, he has directed that you be immediately called upon for your further expenditures. You are therefore requested to render your accounts accordingly —
