By a letter received from Major Darling of date 9th instt. I am informed that one of the officers of his command employed a Master but that they drew rations for such by way of forage supposing it would be allowed. An officer may draw the ration of a Soldier duly [underline: entitled] to rations while he is employed as a Master, provided the same is not otherwise drawn; by the fellow himself; but cannot precisely be attested as is Requisite.
