[Accountants Office April 11 1800] David Henley [e?] [H?]d [al?econ?] Sir I have recived your litter dated the 2^d inst^t enclosing an account taken from your Book for February. 1781. Butler having retired from the Armey this day matter as offered by his delegates presented claims as Lieut^t Coll & Commander at the rate of twelve $ pay. As there as Commander I have considered him as not intitled, I have therefore charged him with the amount Charge, untill as Congress shall be established by the Secretary of War. To govern in the case, my opinion is that he is not intitled to the allowance. I have accordingly directed a statement of his account, a copy of which I inclose you, by which you will observe that after charging him with the abovementioned Balance & a balance due on a former account. I have credited him with his Pay, Subsistance & Foroge for the months of July August & September 1799, the period for which M^r Shaneker is in posession of the money for his Pay & I have accordingly directed M^rShaneker to refund to you the amount he holds for him some $ in order to balance the amount of [undecipherable] you would be directed either to receive the Balance stated in the account Current, from Butler or stop the amount from his Pay & emoluments as they bring to those due, as may be most convenient. Bill Butler pay has been entered and has bottles at Feb 8 1800 indorsed — Sam^l & W[?] P.S.
