Rich^d Chandler South West Point Tengua Accountants Office April 10^th 1800 Sir Your letter dated the 23 ult: enclosing a certificate stating the periods to which Capt Butler has been paid by you, was received by last Post. agreeably to the statement annexed thereto shewing the periods for which he has drawn extra rations I Shall consider it proper to hold him accountable as I before mentioned in my letter to you past. I Principals Shall be restricted in the allowance of double rations to Officers which will proven one on the case of Capt: Butler. I have accordingly directed a Statement of his account charging him with a balance of $7 90 "in commissary and on a late pension to adding thereto the amount of the Rations drawn as Commandant for certain sums with his Pay Subsistence & Forage from 1 July to 30 Sept. 1799 the period for which you hold the money, and you are requested to return the amount to M^c[undecipherable] a copy of Capt. Butlers account as it is now stated will be forwarded to [undecipherable] & M[undecipherable] who have directions to recover from him the balance therein stated if he quits the United States or if more convenient to stop this amount from the Pay & emoluments of the himself as they may hereafter become due — Sam H.
