Major Darling did draw Double Rations for the period in question, but as his command did not entitle him thereto, any more than yourself, he is held accountable for the amount. By a letter from major Darling of the 3^rd Inst. I am informed, that none of the officers of his command had Masters but that they drew rations for such by way of perquisite supposing it would be allowed. An officer may draw the ration of a Soldir duly enlisted & mustered, while he is employed as a Master, provided the same is not otherwise drawn by the Soldier himself; but cannot possibly be allowed as a perquisite.
