Sir,
Agreeably to your letters of the 7th and 10th and mine of the 9th instant in reply to the first, I hand you enclosed a "Statement of monies expended in the Indian Department for Contingent Expences, for presents to Indians on their visits to the Seat of Government, expences attending their Journies, and during their stay at the Seat of Government for the Years 1798 and 1799 taken from the Books & Accounts filed in this Office." The amount of which Statement is Fifteen thousand one hundred and seventy eight Dollars and Eight Cents.
