Inst: which is just Rec'd that M'Kimmay is still in want of certain documents, Relative to my Account of Clothg Endored.— In his letter to me of 29 Jan^ry. he observes, that, before he could act on the above, that he must be furnished with the requisite directions from Gen^l Hamilton by which I was guided in this operation — agreeable to his Request, I transmitted Him a letter from the Gen^l relating to the business, (on 25 Feb^y.) which I trust would tend to obviate every difficulty. There is an account rendered for over all furnished in Jan^y 1799. which has been Suspended till his late period, I wrote M'[undecipherable] a number of letters on the subject and he Informed in a letter dated 19 [undecipherable] last, that he had taken such orders respecting that [undecipherable] as would lead to its Settlement— I have referred M'cl. to the Secret'^y on that business, and make no doubt it will be settled, if he would make the necessary application.— I am so much in advance for the War Department, that It is wholly out of my Power to Settle any more accounts (of which there are a considerable number) till I am furnished with funds — I sincerely request your aid in having a remittance made as soon as possible I am truly in want of it— I hope soon to hear of a Vessel bound to New Orleans, and will give you early Information thereof.— Maj.
