B.P.O. 401810.] Samuel Hodgdon Esquire Superintendent of stores Philadelphia Springfield March 31. 1800 Sir, I received by the Mail Saturday, your letters of the 24.^th & 25.^th inst. enclosing One thousand Dollars in Post Notes on account of the Armory— this sum closes the amount of the Estimate of expenditures for the Month of February— The mode already adopted of remitting, a proportion of large & small Bills— will be most accommodating to me— on account of the difficulty at times— of procuring silver for Notes of larger magnitude, then one hundred Dollars.— The cutlasses borne on my Return— are suitable & proper for Ships of War— if wanted; in a great measure they are destitute of Scabbards.— With the greatest respect— I am Sir Your obedient Servant Joseph Williams Samuel Hodgdon Esquire
