Philip Churches And to brig. by Major Gen^l Hamilton New York Accountants Office March 28^th 1800 Sir, All things handed in your letter with the enclosures requiring John Grills, late a [undecipherable] in the army — The claim for his clothing was presented, has been seen, by Capt Adams and it was [undecipherable] to him with the following observations: "To [undecipherable] d'attorney [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] [undecipherable] in favor of John Grills, late a Private in the [undecipherable] d [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to you, before [undecipherable] can be made for the clothing which may be [undecipherable] to a soldier discharged in the War 1796, it is necessary that his discharge should be sent to this office accompanied by a certificate of the Commanding Officer in [undecipherable] showing the articles of clothing he has received & those which may yet be due" It may be forgiven to mention that [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] receiving certificates from their [undecipherable] that they have been [undecipherable] & stating that clothing [undecipherable] is [undecipherable] have presented [undecipherable] to the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] of these [undecipherable] & then [undecipherable] of final discharge & the balance of pay or clothing was [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] General [undecipherable] circumstances is noted on the final discharge & the receipt of the party [undecipherable] therein. This [undecipherable] makes it necessary that the final discharge [undecipherable] before I am [undecipherable] to make [undecipherable].
