Philip Churchs *Ans'd being to Major Genl Hamilton* New York Sir March 28^th 1800 All charges handed on your letter with the enclosure requiring John Griles for a favour in the army; The Claim for his clothing was prevented, has how ever, by Capt Adams and it was referred to him with the following questions. "To Prince of attorney [undecipherable] of Captain Nichols in favour of John Grile, late a Recruit in the writing [undecipherable] shown to you, before allowance can be made for the clothing which may be due to a Soldier discharged in the Year 1796, it is necessary that his discharge should be sent to this Office accompanied by a Certificate of the Commanding Officer on Georgia showing the articles of clothing he has received & those which may yet be due." He may be forgiven to mention that Soldiers on Georgia receiving discharges from their Captains that these have have refused & noting that clothing [undecipherable] is due them; have presented themselves to the head treasurer of this department & have claimed a final discharge & the balance of pay or clothing was agreeable to his original Bounty which circumstance is noted on the final discharge & the receipt of the party annexed thereto.
