General Orders Adjutant General's Office New York, March 21, 1800 It is once more directed, that General Courts Martial, not only convict & specify the time but the mode of the Punishment, — The Non Commissioned Officers & Soldiers found guilty by them, shall be sentenced to the amount of punishment the Statute by their present regulations directs, and as specified in the laws for which they are tried to receive — and the amount of [undecipherable] permitted to run as absolutely stated in that part of the statutes, directing stoppage of Pay &c. — It is also directed, that the commanding Officer of a General Court Martial, not only for those present, but those to try the troops there for is selected, but all[o] the troops at the Station and the troops in his Brigade and Corps, to which they may respectively belong — In order that an Offender once sentenced to imprisonment in any of the Posts, be put to the proper faming of the Statute, the other, and the sentence is explained, and orders are issued and taken into execution, a copy of the charge exhibited, the finding of the board and their sentence, and the General Orders annexed to both be made and signed by the Commanding Officer of the Troops, by the Commanding Officer of the station and [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] in a copy, [undecipherable] with the provision, to the Commanding Officer of the Post taken [undecipherable] as a provision in the [undecipherable] to be enforced there remain are served and let the entered into a book kept for that purpose — In cases where the sentence [undecipherable] be confirmed, it is ordered that recurrence to be had to the Officer who shall act in concerns, the proceedings of the different Courts Martial, and that their respective relations the command and the Commanding [undecipherable] there direction apply, that there be [undecipherable] with — A consequence of the different situation of the Troops the length of time which must necessarily elapse between the communication of the proceedings of a General Courts Martial and the decision of the Commanding Officer of the army, being known, and the consequent deprivation of the troops of many Regiments or Corps during this period deprived of the services of Officers composing the Courts, it is directed, that as soon as a General Courts Martial be closed its proceedings, the Members thereof shall return to their command, Officers to go forward to the trials of any other cases which may arise previous to the receipt of the order for its dissolution.
