I am favoured with your Letter & in answer thereto permit me to observe That the Articles for which Benjn Overholser received payment for the Transportation of — [on] my Voucher No 17 were the private Property (Suppose Stores) of Major George Stevenson of the 10th Regiment — I am not acquainted with any actually existing regulations by which such payments are governed — This payment was made in obedience to Instructions received from the Quarter Master General, founded as I have understood on usage long since established, and allowed — I shall however be well pleased, to have this business so defined & understood as that all any ways interested in the transaction may have full information in what manner it may be performed so as to give perfect Satisfaction — believe me to be with great respect—
