Patterson of the 1^st Regt has drawn 2 Rations for each of 24 Recruits on the 6 June 1799 on separate returns, all entitled but [to] 1 Ration each. Carolina March 15^th 1800 Sir The vouchers to your account which were referred on the last settlement, are now admitted, except your charges for [undecipherable], and your account being now adjusted, a balance is found due by you to the United States of [undecipherable], which [I] have [caused] charged to the Books of this office: still differing from your statement [Two] [Thousand] [two hundred and seventy five] Dollars & [undecipherable], which will be explained by the amount of [difference] annexed. The form of an [undecipherable] presented to you, was confined to the [columns], [monthly] [undecipherable] of your account agreeable to your instructions, but when they are not furnished immediately after the end of the month, it is proper that your [account] should be [undecipherable] out of the [money] it is proper that it is transmitted, embracing all payments made to or by you, & thereby showing alone what of the public funds are in your hands.
