Sir
I have received your letters of the 4 Insts., the contents of which has been communicated to the Secretary of War with whom it rests to make you the advance required on account of your compensation if he thinks proper.
Your accts for expenditures in December 1799, having been examined & found right the sum of Sixty dollars & 13/100, the balance due you thereon, will be transmitted to you by the Treasurer of The United States.
With respect to the additional compensation required by the Master mason, I can only refer you to your instructions from The Secy of War, which are to govern me in the liquidation of your accounts.
