General Orders Adjutant General's Office New York Nov^r 10^th 1800 Agreeably to instructions from the War Department, the Recruiting service, as far as it respects the First Regiment of Infantry, & the Corps of Light Dragoons, [undecipherable] to be raised by the Act of Congress passed the [undecipherable] July 1798, is for the present suspended. All Officers on the Recruiting service, belonging to the [undecipherable] Corps, will immediately join their Regiments with the Non Commissioned Officers [strikethrough: [undecipherable]] & Privates under their Command. Returns, as soon as possible are to be made by the Commanding Officers of Regiments to the Adjutant General's office of the [undecipherable] of men enlisted under the General Order of the [undecipherable] January last. The Return of Clothing on hand in the [undecipherable] Regiments of Infantry will be forwarded with a Copy of same to the Deputy [undecipherable] Master General at New York. Regulations respecting Barrack Quarters & Fuel to General Officers and Staff — Barrack Quarters To a Major General for himself four Rooms & a Kitchen. To each of his Aids one Room. To a Brigade General for himself three Rooms & a Kitchen. To his Aids one Room. To the Inspector General in addition to his allowance as Major General two Rooms for Officers on his [undecipherable]. To the Adjutant General in addition to his allowances [undecipherable] one Room in addition for each [undecipherable] or Clerk. To [undecipherable] [undecipherable] of each [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable], [undecipherable] separate [undecipherable] the additional allowance of two Rooms for Officers to each [undecipherable] Officer, two Rooms. To each Captain one Room. To [undecipherable] of the Regimental Staff one Room. To a Field Officer, being a [undecipherable] when commanding a separate Station, addition a Kitchen. To two Subalterns one Room. To every [undecipherable] of eight Officers one Room & a Kitchen. To every Inspector or Quarter Master of a Division or Brigade one [undecipherable] for each Officer. Fuel to General Officers & Staff From the [undecipherable] day of October to the first of [undecipherable] in each year: To a Major General one Cord and a half per Month. Do [undecipherable] two Cords. To the Inspector General the [undecipherable] allowance of one [undecipherable] per Month. To the [undecipherable] General and each [undecipherable] Deputy with [undecipherable] separate [undecipherable] allowance [undecipherable] one [undecipherable] per Month. To the Quarter Master General the [undecipherable] allowance of [undecipherable] per Month. To each Inspector or Quarter Master of a Division or Brigade the [undecipherable] additional allowance of half a Cord per Month. From the first of [undecipherable] to the first of October in every [undecipherable] of the preceding Officers to be allowed one half only of the [undecipherable] appropriated to them [undecipherable] in the [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] Officers. The Commander in Chief or [undecipherable] Commanding [undecipherable] Department will direct the allowance of Barrack & Quarters [undecipherable] for any abuse of this order. The [undecipherable] General will [undecipherable] an account [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] allowance of Fuel, and may by [undecipherable] orders [undecipherable] accordingly in case [undecipherable] for his [undecipherable] special regulations. No compensation, in money, [undecipherable] to be made in lieu of allowance of fuel or any compensation to be received or paid to Officers in lieu of Quarters or Barracks.
