The Secretary of War will be pleased to give me the necessary information accordingly — Sam H[undecipherable] [undecipherable] The Secretary of War March 11^th 1800 Sir In answer to your letter of yesterday's date I have to inform you that the disbursements made by William Crosby as agent for the Department of War at Charleston aforesaid amount to D^rs $3617.91 on which he charges a Commission of 2 p^r Ct amounting to D^rs $72.35 The nature of this said disbursements are as follows — $[undecipherable]1594.11 is for monies advanced by him in large sums, to be paid to Thomas Bennett Contractor for erecting fortifications on Sullivan's folly, & N[undecipherable] D Benson Contractor for furnishing rations to the Troops — Had these monies gone through the hands of the Supervisor, he would have charged a Commission of 1 p^r Ct $463.43 is the amount of Warrant [undecipherable] $3883 [undecipherable] of the Secretary of War in favor of Daniel [undecipherable] Supervisor to be laid by him to [undecipherable] Agent & by him to be paid to Thomas Bennett on acc^t of his Federal [undecipherable] — On this sum the Supervisor has received a Commission of [undecipherable] $276.35 is for inspections, chiefly on account of the several Fortifications in — Sam H[undecipherable] [undecipherable] [§ $3617.91]
