I have received your letter dated the 19 ulto. with the statement therein enclosed. I have caused every examination to be made here that the Books and documents in my Office could afford — but to no effect as to any payment having been made for the purpose of service of Dr Davidson above alluded. my object in referring the matter to you was to have fully ascertained that the services were legally performed agreeably to former authority and that payment had never been made in your Department — that the original Musters & they were properly [undecipherable] might be furnished to this Office and an examination made here before I [undecipherable] the payment—
