Philadelphia 7th March 1800
Sir—
I have received your letter of the [undecipherable] inst, enclosing McConnachys receipts for the fifty dollars advanced to them, which now stands right. I have shown the Secretary of War the Armourers accounts referred by Colonel Wilkins— He is not pleased with the refusal as he had decided on the mode of settlement; and because he conceives it falls properly under his notice,— he says he might with equal propriety refuse any claim that has reference to the Hospital Department, and that he shall give no further directions on the subject. I have communicated the matter to the Agent here, who promises to write to the Quarter Master General in the business— I presume he will be directed to take them up, if not I shall know how to proceed— I will speak to Colonel Habersham our Quarter Master General on the business you mention and communicate his answer— The Quarter Master General has made a requisition for Camp equipage sufficient for a thousand Men to be encamped in or about Pittsburg.
The weather continues fine, your own [undecipherable] is open.—
I am Sir,
your Most Obedient Servant—
Samuel Hodgson
