[Nominato Office] M^r Beveridge Crooker Charleston S^o C^o [Paris?] 6 1800 — Sir Your accounts of rations, musket master & Hospital Stores furnished the Troops at the different cantonments in the district of [undecipherable] between the 1 Sep^t. 93 Dec^r 1799 forwarded by the Officer by William Burk have been examined and altho not accompanied by the original lists of Rations as indispensibly necessary to establish the cost of articles, but the cause of which you have explained. the sum of $[undecipherable] has are recentably been admitted to your credit — to be set against that [sum received] by you from Ordinarily on acct of such supplies — I observe that you have taken the rations for the current year. I again been me such Instructions for your future government as it may seem proper to give. I have now to say them them in my letter of the 15 Dec^r last to which I refer you, remarking that an Officer drawing rations is justly for their rations that the Officer is drawing must certify that they are only militia men; himself either being entitled thereto and that they are not included as one itinerant. Also the continued regulation of the Secretary officer to control the calculations in establishing an over merely directory as to the quantities that may be allowed when absolute nessity [strikethrough: cannot] cannot be continued and was not intended to give an indulgement to officers for any kind they have not earned by being on furlough or detached on Service or from any other cause whatsoever — by this you will clearly perceive that funds are never extended & cannot be continued to make a requisite within to Officers or must thence those of them who are not on absolute want of their allowance cannot award money on his of that which they have no means the amounts — [undecipherable] p[?]
