On reference to the charges I find they come under different heads of expenditure and separate regulations will govern in their allowance, it will therefore be proper that separate statements should be formed, to enable you to do this & complete the payments you have charged, a sum of Two hundred & fifty dollars, will be remitted to Jonathan Jackson supervisor Boston to be paid to you on application, for which sum you will give him your receipts. after you shall have completed the payments and obtained the receipts of the parties, they are to be forwarded to this Office with the statements hereafter mentioned. The Recruiting Instructions (see 15^th Sect.) provide for indemnifying Officers commanding Regimental Circles & Districts for travelling expences to which they are liable in visiting Recruiting Quarters, — The number of miles you have travelled in this business must be stated, the periods when performed, the name of the places, to & from certified on Oath or affirmation, included in a separate account agreeably to the sum per diem allowed in those Instructions. — The 16^th Section of the same Instructions provides for allowing the actual expences Officers are at for stationary and postage of letters, to be certified on Oath or affirmation, a separate account is likewise to be stated for these items — The Regulations respecting extra allowances to Officers will govern you where you have been ordered on service which obliges you to incur expences on the Road and at places where there are no military Posts: The charges under this head are to be separately stated, at the sum per diem allowed in those Regulations, supported by the certificate of the Commanding Officer by whom you were detached stating the reasons & circumstances, or by your Oath annexed to the account — The charges for extras here, Transportation & expences incurred on those Heads are also to be stated in a separate account, accompanied by the bills & receipts of the parties, — All of which accts are to be included in one General Statement, & forwarded to this Office with the Vouchers, on receipt of them here an examination will take place, & the balance found due you will be remitted, — I return your account with the bills inclosed — Sam &c.
