Sir;
The following regulations are adopted respecting the allowance of Barracks or Quarters to the Officers of the Army, and of Fuel to General Officers and the Staff of the Army. You will consider them as directory in all accounts to which they may be applicable.
Barracks or Quarters.
To a Major General, for himself, four Rooms & a Kitchen.
To each of his Aids, one Room.
To a Brigadier General, for himself, three Rooms & a Kitchen.
To his Aid, one Room.
To the Inspector General, in addition to his allowance as Major General, two Rooms for Offices, and one for his Secretary.
To the Quarter-Master General, in addition to his allowance as Major General, two Rooms for Offices, and one to each Assistant or Clerks.
To the Adjutant General, and each Deputy Adjutant General with a separate Army, the additional allowance of two Rooms for Offices.
To each Field Officer, two Rooms.
To each Captain, one Room.
To each of the Regimental Staff, one Room.
To a Field Officer or a Captain commanding a separate post, in addition, a Kitchen.
To two Subalterns, one Room.
To every mess of Eight Officers, one Room & a Kitchen.
To every Inspector or Quarter Master of a Division or Brigade, one additional Room for an Office.
Fuel to General Officers and Staff.
From the first day of October to the first of April in each year.
To a Major General, two Cords & one half per month.
To a Brigadier General, two Cords.
To the Inspector General, the additional allowance of one Cord per month.
To the Adjutant General, and each principal deputy with a separate Army, the additional allowance of one Cord per month.
To the Quarter Master General, the additional allowance of one Cord per month.
To each Inspector or Quarter Master of a Division or Brigade, the additional allowance of half a cord per month.
From the first of April to the first of October, in every year, the preceding Officers to be allowed one half only of the quantity of fuel, appropriated to their respective Ranks in the Army, & none for Offices.
To the Commander in Chief, or General commanding in a separate Department or District, the allowance of Barracks or Quarters may be
