Sir
Since writing you on the 12th Jany, Lieutt Broote has been nominated, by the Officers of the 3d Regt for their Pay Master; In order therefore to promote the views of Government, and the accommodation of the Troops, I have directed him to enter upon the duties of that Office, until the will of Major Genl Hamilton may be known—. He will accordingly adopt for his government and guidance, the Instructions, and forms which, addressed to the late Lieutt Lance, and will appropriate the Bills drawn in favor of that [underline: deceased] Officer to the destined Objects, and will transmit the necessary receipts for the same, with the security required by Law to Capt Lance, and I expect to have his vouchers for the pending payments to the Accountant in May.—
You have under cover the copy of a letter written this day to Captain Lance your deputy—
Respectfully I am Sir
Your Obt Servant
