To Mr Edward Wright
Sir, War Department N.Y. [undecipherable] July 1800
It is desirable that I should be furnished, as soon as possible, with such accounts as will shew the exact state of the factory under your superintendance.
In this exhibit, it will be proper to charge the factory with all the goods which it has received from the United States at the invoice price, or actual cost at the factory, and credit it with such of the goods as are on hand; at the same rates or prices, and the skins, pottery, or other property at the factory, or in the hands of any person for sale, at the prices given for the same.
In short, I wish to have such inventories, accounts and statements, properly detailed; as will shew, in the plainest and most satisfactory manner, whether the business has diminished, or improved, the capital employed.
To prevent disappointment, you will transmit to me, as soon as possible; duplicates, or at least, a duplicates of the balance sheet.
I am, Sir, &c
[Signed] James M'Henry
