[undecipherable] no objection to the appointment of [undecipherable] Leonard Williams [as] Quarter Master to the 2^d Regiment of [undecipherable]. I shall speak with the Sec^y of the Treasury and endeavor to [obtain?] the use of the Revenue cutter to bring round [undecipherable] [undecipherable] and his men from Wilmington North Carolina to New York. It is perfectly proper when the usual Barrack Room is [not?] [provided?] [undecipherable] that a substitute be furnished by the public. I shall [undecipherable] [this?] case to the Accountant, and direct the [account?] to be [undecipherable] and [settled?]. The selection of Col. [undecipherable] for Deputy Quarter Master General is very judicious. He is well qualified in my opinion to discharge the duties, provided he gives himself up entirely to them. To conform with the law, will it not be proper to apprise the Quarter Master General, that [undecipherable] Col. [undecipherable] has been provisionally appointed Deputy Quarter Master General, with my concurrence? There is a question however which it [may?] [be?] [undecipherable] [necessary?] to examine relative to this appointment previous to your [making?] a final communication to Colonel [undecipherable].
