[304.] The Secretary of War Pensylvania Office February 6^th 1800 Sir Doctor Levi Browns Surgeon of the 1^st Regiment of Artillery being & calls at this Office respecting no claim which you advise to me in a letter of the 12 December 1799 in which you observe "you will be pleased to enclose D^r Brown's adm voichers or accounts are wanting to be produced to entitle his claim to be examined and alfo afford Doctor browns account is for compensation for his attendance on sick Indians on the Western country from the 4^th November 1790 to the 8 July 1797 including an extra charge of four hundred & fifty dollars for attending the Indians during the Treaty at Greenville, without the compensation amounting to the sum of six hundred dollars, he also charges house rent at Detroit for the purpose of attending the Sick Services the sum of two hundred & fifteen dollars the whole amounting to Eight hundred & [strikethrough: fifteen] dollars, those charges are attested to by agreements made with him argues that allowances but no agreements appear — The whole of Doct Browns claim being for Extra charges over and above the allowances fixed by law therefore if any part can be admitted it must be done by the decision of the Secretary of War.
