S. & Ricardo Margaret's Block Sir I have received your letter dated the 6^th Ult^o in which you request to be informed to what period he now informs to you have been paid, that you may avoid mistakes on the Pay rolls which are to be considered the remainder of the Year 1799. In reply to which I have to inform you that I clearly recollected, as the best evidences were given for the former payment that as further allowances was to be made for subsequent service; but that the Subject unforgiven in when duty should accrue as a compensation the relief allowance of fatigue guards as Comman for by law. But the then papers charging correspondence between the Secretary of War & General Hamilton refers & extracts of which I was furnished with; I shall therefore examine any claim for above services subsequent to the Periods settled for as not entitle to allowance unless it be particularly directed by the Secretary of War for whom a personal representation must be made & whose particular decisions the moneys & allowances must accrue previous to allowance.
