[Colonel Joseph Williams 30 Jan^y 1800 [undecipherable] Philadelphia] [No 30] Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Intend: of Stores Philadelphia Springfield 30 Jan^y 1800 Sir I have this moment received from the Superintendant of the Armory the following plan of Buildings which he proposes to have erected immediately & calls on me to furnish the Materials —— Two Shops of 100 feet by 20— each 9 feet & 2 inches between joints of one Story— also one of 25 feet by 16. for the purpose of fixing their Tools, tempering them [strikethrough: he proposes Stoves. to supply the place of] [undecipherable] it appears to me. one Building of the above dimensions with two Stories— will make a great saving in the expence & be equally accommodating. I should not feel myself justified in proceeding in procuring the Materials without yours or the Sec^ry. of War's orders for that purpose — I Have wrote the Secretary this day & have requested of him (provided it his intention to have the works reinstated) to issue a Warrant in your favour for twenty four hundred Dollars to enable me to carry the Same into effect — I am more convinced of the propriety of your coming on yourself view the ground & the situation of the public property & make such arrangements as you should deem necessary— If the Armory at this Post is contemplated as a permanent Establishment— this appears to be the moment for making such arrangements for the future as shall best secure & promote the public Interest Sir Most obed^tly Your obed^t serv^t Joseph Williams [Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r]
