Knoxville January 28^th 1800 Sir I wrote you the 8^th ins^t that the Creeks has killed two Chickasaws, which report turns out to be false. One of the Colberts is at this place, he is come to purchase a large Boat to load with Corn and to establish himself at the mouth of Bear Creek where he intends to have a ferry, and a public house for travellers. Which will be of great Convenience and Use, I therefore am attending to his Request in getting supplies for him which he purchases with his own money. He seems to be a well disposed Orderly Half breed Indian, his Name is Sevie Colbert. The Son of Opoeimingo With the other Indians arrived here on Sunday the 26^th ins^t And brought me your Directions of the 11 December for to purchase him a Riffle which I will attend to. I now inclose you a Copy of M^r Hawkins's letter to me of the 14^th Dec^r in which there is an appearance of Bowles Presumption, and intention to be troublesome — Colonel Hawkins has also forwarded to me Seven Horses Saddles &c^a as for the Return of them taken by Captain Butler and forwarded from Tellico; They are supposed to be the Property of those Persons Robb'd the 19^th of March in the Creek Nation. A more particular Account of the Horses shall be forwarded by the Next Post, that the Owners may apply for their Property. The sooner they have the information and direct what is to be done with the Horses, Expenses will be saved.
