Sir
Application having been made by Mr Claiborne of Congress relative to the Claim of the detachment of Mounted Infantry under the command of Cornet George L. Davidson from 19th November 1792 to 20th January 1793 I have examined the files of this Office to ascertain whether payment had not been made through one of the Agents in your quarter but none can be discovered, neither can I ascertain that the original Muster or Pay Rolls ever were here — That I may report correctly on the Claim I have to request that you will forward (Should they be in your possession) the original Muster & Pay Roll of that Attachment accompanied by your report as to the Services rendered, and the authority ordering them into Service Should you not be possessed of those Rolls it will be proper previous to any examination taking place that the Claimants should produce them, and the authority under which they were called out — I wish to be as expeditious in my report as possible I have therefore to request that your attention to the objects mentioned
will be as early as possible,
I am
