Shepherds Town Jany 23; 1800 [Address: To Samuel Hodgdon / Philadelphia] [Docket, upper right: Henry Bedinger / Shepherds Town / Jany 23: 1800] [(2)] [Stamp: Received from State Dep't Nov. 24. 1894 R.P.O. 401810] Sir Major Elias Langham now Resident at Chilicoth informed me a few Weeks Since that he had long Since forwarded his account, to you in which account is Stated a Sum due to me, being Moneys (advanced by me for the United States during the time I had the Care (and direction of the Stores at Shepherds Town; Reference being had to that account, will Shew the exact, Sum due me, (and which account is now particularly pointed at by his letter to you, dated Cincinnati Oct: 30. 1799; I Should long Since have drawn on you for Rehayment of this money, but a Severe Illness, in which I lost for a time, all recollection of prior transactions, had So far erased all thought about it, that If Major Langham had not reminded me of the Sum (advanced by me, I might possebly never have Claimed it. — You See Sir, I am Still at a loss in the manner of Stating the exact amount of my Claim, must therefore, as beforementioned refer you to the Majors last account — Believe the Sum due me to be about 170$ or 173$. whatever may be the true Sum you will please pay to Col^o Thomas Worthington who will present this Letter, as also a draught for the Amount due, — should any difficulties arise, or explanation be Necessary for your better action, I will attempt a further Elucidation — I Remain Sir with much Esteem your Ob^t Serv^t Henry Bedinger C Maj^o Samuel Hodgdon
