Sam.^d Hodgdon / Superintendent of Military Stores / Philadelphia] West Point Jan.^y 17. 1800 Sir, I inclose you a return of Military Stores, issued & transferred, at this Garrison from the 1^st of last October to the 1^st instant also an appraisement of the three Public horses, on the back of which is a certificate relative to the sale of them, signed by Cap.^t Harry Garrison the Contractor's Agent here, who sold them being a Vendue Master. Cap.^t Garrison & M.^r John [undecipherable: Kronkhyte], the Appraisers, are persons of respectable characters & very competent judges of the value of horses. The horses were appraised high, & brought more than I think they would at any other place. To have sold them for cash down, either here or in the country, would have been throwing Public property away. Your favor of the 12^th of November last relative to the horses I duly received.
