In answer to your letter of the 13 Instant, requesting information relative to the claims in the Settlement of Nathan Bason which was referred to the kommittee of claims, I have to observe that it appears by the accounts of the Kentucky Volunteers that he has recvd pay as pay master of a detatchmt from 9 August 1794 to the 26 October following, the time the volunteers were brought to which process all the detatchmt pay masters were paid. — After the Volunteers were dismist it was usual the duty of those Actg pay master General of the Volunteers to take in the money, to Account for all the avances of pay &c due to the Volunteers I was held responsible in the payment to them & where pay & allowances were unaccounted [through], was made to boud up to the 1^st April 1796 and an allowance of one months pay subsistance & forage for the purpose of bringing out the accts for Settlement which amount was all finally closed out the books of this office. It also appears that Nathan Bason recvd pay forage & subsistance as adj Major of a detachment from the 12 June 1794 to 26 October following & all other allowances that the usage of settling accounts in this Office, would justify — Sam R [initialed: W.S.]
