Sir, The Papers herewith transmitted exhibit claims against the United States by James Seagrove Esquire, for Rent of certain of his Lands and Buildings, for public uses. [underline: The Periods for which the Rents are charged, and the annual rates specified are to be admitted.] You will please to examine the accounts, and report the Balance due upon them after deducting former Payments, for the periods & at the rate of rent stated, in order to a payment of the same to John Ross, Esquire, who is authorised to receive. The Balance to be reported will be exclusive of a charge of 3.500 Dollars contained in a Note annexed [strikethrough: to the Account dated the 12^th August, 1799, for Pine &] Cypress Trees alleged to have been cut for public uses, and for feeding public Cattle & Horses on his Land, which latter charge is to be expressly relinquished.
