Superintendent of Store[s] Philadelphia Springfield January 15^th 1800 Sir, I have received your letter of the 8^th ins: enclosing one thousand Dollars in Post Notes on account of the Armory The mode of remittance mentioned in your letter, of not Hazarding more than one thousand Dollars at one time I am apprehensive will not answer my purpose - if it is agreeable to you Sir, I would propose the cutting the Notes through the middle - send me one half at a time - on my acknowledging the receipt of them, remit me the other half - this mode will make the remittances safe & put nothing to Hazard - half the amount of my Estimates may be in Notes of five, the other in one hundred Dollars each - The Statement of expenditures & Work done in the Factory in the year past I hope has got safe to hand I wish it may answer your purpose - I am most respectfully, Your ob^t Servant Joseph Williams Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r
