Wilmington Delaware Accountants Office January 7^th 1800 Sir I have received your letter dated the 3 Ult^o in answer thereto have to reper to you that so far as regards the rations of Officers engaged in the recruiting Service, they are to be guided by the rules laid down in the Recruiting Laws. The construction given to the Act of Congress of the 3. March 179[undecipherable] allowing double rations to each Officer whilst Commanding a Seperate Post- is that the Commanding Officer of a Seperate Post Indipendent is the one entitled to the allowance of additional rations, and the Commandant or Commanding Officer of a District— Sam W [undecipherable] W.S. Paustell from Lawrenceburg J^nr January 9. 1800 Sir The account of your issues or supplies to the troops you are now Commanding is required for want of the following vouchers which (if not in your possession) you will obtain from the Officers & forward to this Office, & not. All the original [undecipherable] ration returns, upon which your final returns & kept therefore attachment, as one method now is to ensure on the transit return and the Certificate of that Officer specifies in figures the number of rations delivered. The original returns upon which the [undecipherable] rations were issued to [undecipherable] Recruits [undecipherable]. You must show by what authority you are entitled to more than [undecipherable] back for complete rations allowed, between 1 January & 30 April 1799 - otherwise the additional sum of the [undecipherable] charged by you on those rations will be deducted.
