I received your letter of the
4th of Dcr. on the 30th.
You will find in this mail a letter from the Secretary of the Navy for your son Edward, and a warrant of Midshipmen. I hope he will choose himself by his conduct to the authority of the confidence because in him and live to be an honour to his country.
