Guardianship / Gideon [De] Leadernier [undecipherable] / Sep 399; 4.38 / Dan Hopkin[s] Ag[en]t] To all People to whom these Presents shall come, Stephen Jones Esquire Judge of Probate of Wills &c. for the County of Washington, within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, sendeth Greeting— Whereas it hath been made to appear to me, by the Inquisition of the Selectmen of the Town of Eastport, taken and returned to me as the Law directs; that Gideon Do Ledernier an Inhabitant of said Town is a lunatic or distracted person and is incapable of taking care of himself. Therefore know ye, that I the said Judge, trusting in the Care & Fidelity of Lewis Frederick De Ledernier of said Eastport, have and by these Presents do assign and appoint the said Lewis Frederick De Ledernier to be guardian of the said Gideon De Ledernier, hereby directing and Empowering him in said Capacity to take care, as well of the Person as Estate both Real and Personal of the said lunatic or distracted Person, and to make a just and true inventory of the said Estate to be exhibited into the Register's Office of Probate for the County afore-said— and the said Guardian shall improve frugally and without Waste and Destruction the Estate afore-mentioned, and apply the annual profits and incomes thereof, for the comfortable Maintainance & Support of said lunatic, or distracted person, and also of his household or Family, and the said Guardian is hereby impowered to settle accounts, receive, (and if need be, sue for and recover, all such just debts, as are due to said lunatic or distracted person, from any person or persons whomsoever; and to manage, improve, divide, or take care of his Real Estate, in as full and ample a manner as he would or might do, were he restored to his right mind: And the said Guardian shall also pay all the just debts as are owing from the said lunatic, or distracted person, which were contracted before his distraction, out of his Personal Estate, or in case that be not sufficient, then, out of his Real Estate, being first empowered, to make sale thereof, or of such part thereof as shall be sufficient for that End by the Supreme Judicial Court, or Court of Common Phas upon application to them made therefor; and he shall render a plain and true account of his Guardianship, when and so often as he shall be thereunto lawfully required— In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my Hand, & Seal of Office this second day of January in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred— Stephen Jones Judge of Probate
