I have received your letter dated the 2d instant and am pleased to find that you have received a part of the balance due by John Connors the remainder I now not received you would be proper to be reported as early as possible clear of any further difficulties since I wish you to present them to me — I shall make a proper representation thereof to the Comptroller of the Treasury who will direct the proper steps in the recovery equally to have in making the remittance for what you have received, as [undecipherable: write] as what remains to be paid, you will pursue the most [undecipherable: safe] & ready course of which I have you to [undecipherable: judge]
