These may Certify, I am knowing, that the Bearer John M'Gowen came into the United States from the Province of Nova Scotia, in the Year One thousand seven hundred & Seventy Six. — That he had at the time a valuable property lying in the Town of Amherst in the foresaid Province, but engaging in an expedition with Colonel Jonathan Eddy against Fort Cumberland, he was Compelled on the retreat of the Americans to leave that Country — That he was for sometime after in the service of the United States in the Indian Eastern department, was employ'd as a mesanger & burrier on Several dangerous & distressing occasions, and continued as a faithfull friend & adherent, to the end of the revolutionary war —
His business calling him to the Southern States. The subscriber recommends him, as a person worthy the protection and Assistance of every friend to the United States
