[undecipherable: Clem?] Stevens has been here, and taken my Returns again for Clothing, and informs me he will see that it is sent on immediately. Respecting Captain Wadsworth's Clothing I received a letter from him dated the 28^th August last, which informed me that he had Clothing for Forty or Fifty Men, Stored at New London, which was taking damage by layering; and as he had at that time, but two or three men inlisted, and Capt. Henry's Company then suffering at Fort Adams, I thought it prudent to direct the Clothing to be delivered to his Company: Lieutenant Leonard's Detachment was at that time at Fort Jay New York, afterwards ordered on to Newport, and there distributed to the Companies, and out of his Detachment was taken Capt. Wadsworth's Company, and then ordered for Portland; which still left that Company intitled to their Clothing for the insuing Year, and the Clothing taken from New London, puts Government to no extra expense, but I think a great saving.
