Sir
I have received under a blank cover a receipt of John & Amasa Woodward for one hundred seventeen Dollars & 90c. which sum will be entered as expendd on the 26th to your Credit, on the Books of this Office. In taking act in future for monies forwarded from this Department, I have to request that you will recur there as set forth in my letter of advice; when for a rations to state it in the receipt as for any other purpose, as set forth on the letter accompanying the remittance; I will also wish in forwarding the receipt that you would mention in your letter the particulars thereof; as the receipt accompanys the account to the Treasury Department, and the letter is the only document that is on file at this Office, which will shew the receipt having been forwarded.
