Octob^r 26. 1799 Sir I have received your letter dated the 11^th Instant, enclosing a receipt for the Pay of Daniel Donoghue for July & August 1797 amounting to seven dollars &^c You which was withheld untill you could ascertain whether the United States were at any expence on account of his desertion, presuming that no expence had been incurred the above amount has accordingly been transferd to your credit, leaving the balance now standing against you of $48.12.90, which sum will be deducted from your Pay agreeably to my letter of the 11^th Instant.
